CAC. Superb tab toning! The 1936 Gettysburg silver commemorative half dollar was issued to mark the 75th anniversary of the pivotal 1863 Civil War battle. Authorized in 1936, dated 1936, and struck in 1937 solely at the Philadelphia Mint, it had a limited distribution of just 26,928 pieces, with many unsold examples later melted. Sculpted by Frank Vittor, the obverse powerfully features conjoined portrait busts of a Union and Confederate veteran, evoking themes of national reconciliation and healing. The reverse displays divided Union and Confederate shields separated by a double-bladed fasces (symbolizing authority), flanked by branching oak (for strength and war) and olive (for peace), encircled by the inscription "1863 75th ANNIVERSARY 1938 BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG."

Renowned for its striking design and profound historical symbolism, it remains a collector favorite, especially in gem uncirculated condition (MS65+), where examples often exhibit attractive natural toning—ranging from light golden hues to champagne peripheral rings.
