Its remaining detail reveals the strength of Christian Gobrecht’s Liberty Head design while also hinting at the commercial role these coins once played across the developing South.
PCGS has graded just 30 pieces at XF-45, with only 62 finer. This modest population underscores the difficulty of locating Dahlonega half eagles that retain this level of definition, especially from a year like 1846 when most pieces entered active circulation soon after striking.
