PCGS has graded 147 pieces at the AU-58 level with 3,757 finer, indicating that many survivors have been preserved in higher Mint State grades. David Akers observed that “The 1892 is common in all grades including choice uncirculated,” a reflection of the issue’s substantial survival rate.
CAC approval at this level is far more elusive. Only one example has been certified by CAC in AU-58, with 128 finer, highlighting the selectivity applied to coins that combine strong eye appeal with accurate grading for the designation.
