The 1921 Mercury Dime is an important key date in 20th-century U.S. coinage. Struck in very limited numbers at Philadelphia during a post-World War I recession, only 1.08 million pieces were minted. Among the reasons it is rare is due to its issuance in 1921; it was a tool of survival, not a collectible.
Survival rates are low. Most circulated heavily, and even Mint State examples typically show weak strikes and heavy marks. High-grade survivors with Full Bands (FB) detail—crisp, fully separated horizontal bands on the fasces—are genuinely rare and avidly sought by collectors. This PCGS MS-65 FB example, further distinguished by a CAC approval, represents the ideal combination of strong eye appeal, sharp detail, and unquestioned quality.
