Tied TOP POP at NGC. The Small Date over Large Date (JR-9) variety is a ridiculously rare variety to a widely collected series. The last (and only, according to our records) auction record for a MS62 occurred in 2011. Since then, a mere five (5) coins have sold at public auction in all grades. NGC says this coin is tied for TOP POP. PCGS has graded a total of 17 in all grades - 5 as Mint State. 1. Great Collections recently sold a PCGS AU58 coin (8/2024) for $2,371 - 7 bidders participating and 20 bids executed. 2. Heritage offered a NGC MS64 in the FUN Sale of 2021, and it later appeared that same year in their June Sale but in a PCGS holder. (This coin is readily identifiable a there is a vertical discoloration in the left obverse field before the head of Liberty). 3. Stacks offered a PCGS MS64+ in 2012. This coin displayed superb light toning but had a slightly weaker strike on the reverse. 4. In 2020, Heritage auctioned what appears to be the highest grade specimen, an untoned and white PCGS MS65. Identified by one small dark spot at the center of the reverse. It appears this coin is no longer listed on the PCGS pop report. That's it for high-grade specimens!
