Featuring a coroneted Liberty Head obverse derived from federal designs, encircled by 10 stars, the reverse proclaims "1 DOLLAR 1854" within a beaded ring, surrounded by "CALIFORNIA GOLD" and the "DERI" signature of engraver M. Deriberpie. As a Rarity-7 variety, BG-527 is exceptionally scarce, with few survivors from the original mintage. The DERI mark ties it to Deriberpie's brief 1853-1854 collaboration with local jewelers like Nouzillet & Routhier.
