An amazing example of the ever-popular and absolutely necessary Red Book variety 1798 Draped Bust, Small Eagle variety. We've traced this specimen back to the Heritage's Sale of the Warren Collection, where it was descibed as "...Ex: Freedom Collection. Bowers Die State III. Although slightly more plentiful than its 15 Stars Small Eagle counterpart, the 1798 13 Stars variety is challenging in its own right, especially in high circulated grades. This is a splendidly original About Uncirculated coin, with rich old-silver toning throughout both sides and glimpses of mint luster visible among the reverse devices. Only a few small marks and hair-thin abrasions are seen on the smooth and attractive surfaces. The obverse die was lapped, while the reverse shows numerous die cracks -- some of them advanced, in its final use prior to striking a few more 1797-dated dollars in 1798.
