The 1884-CC Morgan Silver Dollar is a popular issue from the Carson City Mint, which operated only from 1870 to 1893. PCGS has graded 18,433 as MS63 with 34,828 finer.
Struck during a peak year of production at the small Nevada facility, it carries the distinctive “CC” mintmark on the reverse beneath the wreath. Total mintage reached 1,136,000 pieces, and many survive in high grades due to their being stored in Mint bags until the 1970s and 1980s.
Most examples display strong luster with a slightly frosty texture typical of Carson City strikes. The 1884-CC often shows excellent detail on Liberty’s cheek and hair, as well as the eagle’s breast feathers. Light to moderate bag marks are normal in MS-63, usually scattered across the fields and devices, while the strike remains sharp overall.
PCGS certification in MS-63 places the coin solidly in the choice uncirculated category—bright, original, and free of wear, with attractive eye appeal for collectors. It remains a desirable Carson City Morgan issue, widely sought for its historic mint origin and consistent availability in mid-to-high mint state grades.
