Constantius II (337-361CE). AR heavy siliqua (22mm, 3.33 gm, 6h). The obverse features D N CONSTANTIVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantius II facing right. The reverse features VOTIS XXX MVLTIS XXXX" in four lines within wreath, SIRM in exergue. RIC 17. RSC 342. Struck on an extraordinarily broad flan from dies of highly refined style, and gorgeously toned. Flan crack at 6:00. NGC MS★ 5/5 - 5/5. Ex. Lexington Collection of Jonathan K. Kern.


Created at the Sirmium location circa 351-355 CE, which operated as a major Roman imperial mint from the early 4th century onward, particularly active under the Constantinian dynasty and into the Valentinian-Theodosian era. It struck gold solidi and aurei, silver siliquae, and large quantities of bronze folles/nummi to supply the Danube frontier legions defending against barbarian threats.
