 Augustus AR Denarius. Struck in Rome, 13 BC. C. Marius C.f. Tro(mentina tribu), moneyer. The obverse features AVGVSTVS, bare head to right; lituus behind. The reverse features C•MARIVS•C•F TRO•III•VIR, galloping quadriga to right, bearing an upright palm branch. RIC I 399; BMCRE 101; BN 517; RSC 456. 4.16g, 24mm, 8h. Good Extremely Fine - NGC certified as XF - with beautiful old cabinet toning. Exceptionally well-centered on both sides. This is a scarce issue; rated R2 by RIC, and one of the very finest examples of the type offered at auction in the past 20 years. In march of 2022, a similar example was auctioned in London and hammered down at 3,000 GBP (Approx. 3,955 USD / 3,594 EUR / 3,682 CHF). Adding the auction fee and VAT, in US dollars that would have been approximately $4,950.
