The 1932 $10 Indian Head Eagle, graded NGC MS-63, is a remarkable gold coin from the penultimate year of its series, designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Struck in Philadelphia, it features Liberty wearing a headdress on the obverse and an eagle on arrows with an olive branch on the reverse. Minted during the Great Depression, it marks the end of U.S. gold coinage before the 1934 Gold Reserve Act, adding historical weight.
With a mintage of 4,463,000, the 1932 Eagle is easily available. Jeff Garrett writes, ”One can only wonder why such a large number of Eagles were coined at the absolute depth of the Depression. This is far and away the most common date in all grades and the standard of reference for the type coin to represent the Indian Head Eagle.” NGC has graded 33,912 as MS63 with 23,680 finer.
