Minted in San Francisco with 775,750 pieces, this issue is common in MS64 due to the discovery of a 1983 Central American hoard. Writes Jeff Garrett, “The 1911–S is significantly scarcer than its Denver counterpart.… Large numbers of this date were found in the El Salvador hoard.”
Graded MS64 by PCGS, it exhibits strong strike, frosty surfaces, and light orange-gold color. The CAC green sticker confirms premium quality for the grade, adding extra value. David Akers notes: "The 1911-S is nearly always very sharply struck, and the surfaces are finely granular and frosty... Color is almost always very good; a light to medium orange gold color is standard."
