The 1829 Capped Bust Half Dollar, designed by John Reich and updated and re-engraved by William Kneass, features a left-facing Liberty on the obverse. Her hair is bound in a Phrygian cap secured by a band inscribed LIBERTY, with seven stars left and six right, date 1829 below, and soft drapery flowing from her shoulder across the bust.
The reverse displays a perched eagle with wings raised, clutching three arrows and an olive branch. A scroll above bears E PLURIBUS UNUM, while UNITED STATES OF AMERICA surrounds the eagle and 50 C. edges the rim. The denomination appears as 50 C. below. This example is the O-112 variety (R-2), distinguished by the position of the 9 relative to the bust and specific die cracks visible on later states.
Graded NGC AU-53, the coin retains nearly full detail with only slight friction on Liberty’s cheek, cap, and the eagle’s wing and head, accompanied by original mint luster in protected areas and light golden-gray toning.
