This is a handsome original silver Libertas Americana medal, an American classic that remains one of the most historically important and aesthetically influential medals of the Revolutionary era. The surfaces display deep antique gray toning with attractive steely-charcoal accents and vivid antique-gold and steel-blue highlights at the peripheries. Fields are nicely reflective on both sides; devices retain abundant fine detail. Scattered marks are present, but none are serious; the expected light hairlines of the grade are noted. Rims are smooth and the overall eye appeal is strong for the assigned grade.
Silver originals are scarce—roughly an order of magnitude rarer than their bronze counterparts—and most survivors show handling from non-numismatic distribution. High-grade, attractive examples remain exceptional. The current auction record stands at $336,000 for the PCGS/CAC MS-64+ sold in August 2024. Other recent MS-62 realizations include $180,000 (Margolis, Spring 2024), $174,000 (Martin, August 2022), $168,000 (Cardinal, November 2022), and $156,000 (Archangel, October 2018). This original, solid Mint State specimen should find a ready home in an advanced cabinet.
