Struck in the Nevada facility that operated under challenging conditions, this issue carries the distinctive “CC” mintmark below the eagle on the reverse. With a mintage of 91,209 pieces, it saw heavy circulation in the American West, where hard money fueled mining camps, railroads, and commerce. As a result, many surviving examples display considerable wear.
In PCGS AU-53 grade, the coin retains noticeable mint luster in protected areas around the devices, while light friction appears on Liberty’s cheek and hair and the eagle’s wingtips.
