The 1889-O Morgan Silver Dollar is a popular New Orleans Mint issue. PCGS has graded 2,906 in MS63 with 2,719 finer.
Struck during a period of significant production at the “O” mint, 11.8 million pieces were produced, and many have survived in mint state due to storage in canvas Mint bags.
This particular example, graded PCGS MS-63, displays the characteristic look of an original, undisturbed 1889-O: satiny blast-white luster, scattered contact marks consistent with the grade, and a typically weak but recognizable strike on Liberty’s hair and the eagle’s breast feathers. The cheek remains relatively clean for the assigned grade.
Collectors value the 1889-O in mint state because uncirculated pieces become scarce above MS-64. This MS-63 offers the date in genuine, problem-free condition and original surfaces that have never been cleaned or artificially toned. It is a solid mid-grade representative of a desirable New Orleans Mint Morgan dollar.
