Struck at the New Orleans Mint during its final decade of dollar production, it carries the distinctive “O” mintmark on the reverse below the wreath. With an original mintage of 11,875,000 pieces, the this is a quite available issue of the Morgan dollar series.
In PCGS MS-63 condition, this example exhibits sharp design details, However, as is typical with many New Orleans Morgan dollars, there is weakness in the strike of the breast feathers on the eagle and in Liberty’s hair and ear. Light to moderate contact marks and small abrasions are present in the fields, consistent with the grade, while the surfaces retain much of their original cartwheel luster. The creamy to slightly frosty appearance is typical of better-preserved New Orleans dollars from this era. The addition of a CAC sticker confirms that the coin meets or exceeds the strict standards for quality and eye appeal within the MS-63 level.
