2021-W American Liberty High Relief G$100, American Mustang, NGC PR-70UC
Mintage limited to 12,500 (final ~12,471). In a sharp departure from prior human figures, the obverse by Beth Zaiken and Craig A. Campbell depicts a wild American Mustang horse bucking off a western saddle against a rising sun, symbolizing the throwing off of the yoke of British rule; inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “2021,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The reverse by Richard Masters and Phebe Hemphill presents a close-up of a bald eagle’s head with open beak, inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD,” and “$100.”
Each of the American Liberty High Relief designs (except for the 2018-W issue) are one-ounce .9999 fine (24-karat) gold coins measuring 1.205 inches in diameter, struck at West Point with the “W” mintmark, and packaged in presentation cases with certificates of authenticity. The series emphasizes modern, varied interpretations of Liberty paired with contemporary eagle designs.
Present NGC Census (11/2026) in 662 coins. The NGC Price Guide Value is $16,000.
