1881/0 $5 Liberty Head Half Eagle PCGS MS-63 CAC
As with most overdates in the U.S. gold series, demand for the 1881/0 is far lower than for comparable silver and nickel overdates, largely because far fewer collectors pursue gold coins by date and mintmark. The variety remains relatively obscure, and previously unrecognized examples continue to surface. Most survivors grade only Extremely Fine or About Uncirculated. Mint State coins are scarce, with MS-63 representing the highest grade recorded by the authors.
