A spectacular Premium Gem from the first year of the short-lived No Motto Indian eagle. The mintage of 239,400 pieces was adequate, and many examples were set aside for their novelty, so the issue is readily available in Uncirculated condition. It becomes more elusive, however, at the MS66 level, where this coin ranks among the finer survivors—NGC has certified only 31 numerically finer (9/26).
Satin-smooth, richly gold surfaces display orange highlights and vibrant, glittering luster on both sides, with partially frosted central devices. The fields and devices are virtually mark-free; the finely textured surfaces appear to have resisted abrasions. Design elements are sharply rendered for the type, consistent with Charles E. Barber’s modifications that favored mint productivity. Impeccable preservation and terrific eye appeal make this an outstanding candidate for an advanced collection or a high-end type set.
