1937 50C Walking Liberty Half Dollar NGC MS-67
The Walking Liberty half dollar in among the most admired designs in American coinage. Created by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, the obverse depicts Liberty striding toward the rising sun draped in the American flag, while the reverse features a powerful eagle perched on a mountain crag. More than eight decades after its release, the artistry of Weinman’s design continues to draw praise from collectors in the United States and around the world.
Certified NGC MS-67, this example displays exceptional preservation and remarkable eye appeal. Bright, original luster radiates across both sides, illuminating the intricate details of Liberty’s gown, the flowing folds of the flag, and the eagle’s finely rendered feathers. The surfaces are notably clean for the issue, with strong strike characteristics that complement the coin’s vibrant appearance.
High-grade survivors of the 1937 issue are elusive despite the coin’s popularity. NGC has graded 112 examples in MS-67, while only 32 pieces have been certified finer. Those population figures underscore the scarcity of the coin at this elite level of preservation. Combining outstanding technical quality with one of the most celebrated designs ever placed on a United States coin, this piece stands as a memorable representative of the Walking Liberty series.
