Very popular New Orleans mint Civil War denomination. This coin last appeared in Heritage's 2010 July Summer Fun Sale, as lot #3711 (PCGS#2289664). It brought $5,175 at the time and was described as "...1861-O 50C MS65 PCGS. Breen-4904, WB-101. Normal Date, Type Two Reverse. Subtle blue, gray, and golden iridescence covers each side of this Gem New Orleans Seated half. Although some examples show the Confederate obverse with die crack from nose-rim right of star 7, most of the batch, as here, are from the WB-101 die pairings. This piece is boldly struck, with all star centrils present except for those on star 8. Population: 7 in 65, 5 finer (6/10)." Today, this Gem has a PCGS population of 10 in 65; 7 finer. Not too much grade-flation here!!!
