World Silver - 1856A 2 Thaler Waldeck-Pyrmont, Germany NGC PR65 Cameo - Actually Deep Mirror Prooflike!
This is a special piece for the enthusiast of German coinage. Even though it is graded PR65 Cameo by NGC, there is no evidence whatsoever that any proof versions of this issue were struck. Therefore, we at AUCM present to you a very rare Deep Mirror Prooflike striking of this issue. NGC has graded 6 of this issue in mint state, with the finest being a single piece in MS65. The piece offered is the only one (erroneously) graded as proof by NGC. The mintage of this historic issue is 11,375. Berlin Mint. KM 177; Davenport-928; Kahnt 552; Thun 409.
Prince Georg Victor zu Waldeck and Pyrmont
The Obverse reads around GEORG VICTOR FURST ZU WALDECK U. PYRMONT (Prince George Victor of Waldeck and Pyrmont). His bearded head is presented facing left, with 'A' below for Berlin Mint. The reverse displays the arms within a crowned mantle and reads 2 THALER VII EINE F. MARK 3-1/2 GULDEN *VEREINS 1856 MUNZE*. (2 Thalers/ 1/7 Cologne Mark/ 3-1/2 Gulden *Coin of 1856*). The Edge lettering reads: MÜNZKONVENTION VOM 30 JULI 1838 (Coin Convention of 30 July 1838). The Principality of Waldeck and Principality of Pyrmont was in early times a state in the Holy Roman Empire. Later it became a county and in 1712 was raised from a county to a principality. After the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806, it was a constituent state of its successors. When this coin was struck it was part of the German Confederation. Its former land is located in present day Hesse and Lower Saxony (Germany).
