Vespasian. 69-79 CE. AV Aureus (7.19g). Struck c. 78-79 CE. Graded NGC Choice F, 5/5, 3/5. Rome mint. The obverse presents the stern looking Vespasian, laureate head facing right. Surrounding: VESPASIANVS AVG CAESAR. The reverse has Annona Augusti sitting on a throne, holding ears of grain and ties for the grain. Surrounding: ANNONA AVG. She is a divine personification of the grain supply to the city of Rome. Annona Augusti was a figure of Imperial Roman propaganda, one that was manifested in iconography and cult practice.
