1849 $10 Mormon Copper Reverse Uniface Restrike, K-4a P.E. NGC MS66BN
This specimen surpasses the Kagin:1506 (9/2018) NGC MS64 as the current Finest Known Reverse Uniface Copper (1849) Mormon $10 - by a mile! (About a half dozen examples are known and two of these are impounded). Purples and pinks give way to lustrous rose-orange throughout with bursts of bold mint orange adding immensely to the overall appeal. This coin is boldly struck on a perfect planchet that yields evidence of die rust under low magnification. A sizeable rim cud can be seen from 10 o’clock to noon. Scare and desirable among specialists in the field, sort of the ultimate “go with” for the Mormon gold series. The regular Mormon 1849 $10 gold piece is so prohibitively rare and expensive (Redbook lists the value at $850,000 in AU) that the demand for these pattern coins is ALWAYS strong with professional numismatists ans specialists alike. Certainly as the Finest known of just about a half dozen examples (two impounded)
