1922 50C Grant Silver Commemorative, Star NGC MS64
David Hall writes, “the Grant with star half dollar has long been considered one of the key rarities to the silver commemorative series.”
Here’s a great opportunity to add this true rarity to your collection. NGC has graded 585 as MS64 with 326 finer. Collectors Universe prices this rare issue at $4,000.00 in MS64. The 1922 Grant Star has been among the most expensive coins in the Classic Silver Commemoratives series steadily for the past 50 to 60 years. Writes Hall, “the Grant with star is a rare coin in any grade and a very rare coin in Gem condition.”

One of the earlier issues in the classic era (1892-1954) of silver commemoratives, the Grant half dollar has two varieties. The common—and thus more available and affordable—variety (67,405 coin mintage) does not have a star in the obverse field, while the rarer variety (4,256 coin mintage) has a large star stamped into the field on the right side. The reason for the star appears to have been to create an instant rarity and stimulate sales.
