SYRIA. Seleucia Pieria. Augustus (27 BC-AD 14). AR tetradrachm (27mm, 15.50 gm, 1h). Dated Civic Year 114 (AD 5/6). The obverse features KAIΣAPOΣ ΣE-BAΣTOV, with the laureated head of Augustus facing right, bead and reel border. The reverse features a dominant thunderbolt on a base placed on a throne, with the characters ΣEΛEVKEΩN THΣ IEPAΣ above thunderbolt, date IΔP and KAI / AVTONOMOV below throne, A - H across field, all within the wreath. Prieur 1186. RPC I 4328. This is a Very Rare issue and is a remarkable example, attractively toned, well centered and displaying full legends.
Certified by NGC as AU★ 4/5 - 4/5. NGC has encapsulated only four (4) of these coins, of which this AU* is by a wide margin the finest seen.
