2019 £1000 Silver Una & the Lion, Great Britain Commemorative Issue, 2-Kilo Silver #04 NGC PR70UC
Only 40 of this impressive issue have been produced by the Royal Mint, and this is the second example that has ever been offered for sale publicly. ASW = 64.24 Oz/2 Kilos. NGC has certified 23 examples as PR70, with 5 as PR69. The other 12 could have been retained in the original mint packaging.
In 2019, the Royal Mint paid homage to one of the most iconic coin designs in numismatic history - the Una and the Lion, which was originally issued in 1839. The 2019 series, includes a £5 Silver 2 Oz. coin, £1000 2-Kilo Silver coin, a £200 2 Oz. Gold coin, £1000 Kilo Gold coin, £2000 2-Kilo Gold coin and £5000 5-Kilo Gold coin.
This coin being offered is numbered #4 and while this is the third of the £1000 2-Kilo Silver issue to be offered worldwide, a few of the other denominations in silver and gold have appeared on the secondary market in recent months and attracted spirited bidding. The £5 Silver 2 Oz. coin, mintage of 3,000, has been sold twice by another auction house in the past 12 months, and realized $7,800 and $13,200. Meanwhile, a £2000 2-Kilo Gold coin, graded NGC Proof-69 UC, realized $360,000 in January 2021.
