2017-W $100 American Liberty High Relief NGC PR70 UCAM
The United States Mint has issued a $100 gold coin for only the second time: the $100 American Liberty High Relief. Struck in 1 ounce of .9999 fine (24 karat) gold at the West Point Mint, this superb 2017-W American Liberty Proof is one of the purest gold coins ever struck.
Featuring dramatic high-relief devices, this $100 gold piece portrays Miss Liberty wearing a crown of stars that follows the Statue of Freedom atop the dome of the U.S. Capitol building. The dual 1792-2017 dating commemorates the 225th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Mint. The reverse presents a bald eagle in flight and a statement of weight and purity. The coin’s edge shows the raised inscription 225th anniversary to honor the founding of the U.S. Mint in 1792.
This coin had a mintage of 38,841 and was produced at the West Point Mint in New York. NGC has graded 3,152 examples as PR70 Ultra Cameo. Collectors Universe gives this issue a price of $3,100.00 in PR70 UCAM.
