1988-W G$50 Gold American Eagle NGC PR69DCAM
The obverse of this $50 Gold American Eagle reproduces the obverse of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ beautiful and famous double eagle, often called the ‘Saint’ in honor of the famed sculptor-medalist. The Saint was created upon the insistence and with the collaboration of President Theodore Roosevelt. It was struck from 1907-1933. NGC has graded 2,321 as PF69DCAM with 2,409 finer. Collectors Universe prices this issue at $3,163.00 in PR69DCAM.
When producing this $50 Gold American Eagle, the U.S. Mint employed the original bronze cast in order to present Saint-Gaudens’ original vision. From 1986 to 2021, the reverse, which was designed and engracved by sculptor Miley Busiek, displayed an eagle carrying an olive branch hovering above a nest within which is a second eagle and hatchlings.
