Here’s a well-struck beauty that is also a better date in the series. NGC has graded 126 as MS65 with 106 finer. Writes NGC Coin Explorer, “This issue is remarkable for being among the most consistently well struck coins in the series. Mint State survivors are plentiful, and the number of gems is quite high for one of the "early date" pieces from 1916-33.”
David Hall writes, “Starting in 1934, even though it was in the middle of the Great Depression, significant quantities of original rolls and mint bags of all denominations of U.S. coins were saved by the growing number of coin collectors and dealers. … I have seen hundreds, if not thousands, of original mint state rolls of 1934 Philadelphia Walkers. But I have never seen a roll of 1933-S Walkers, though many years ago I heard about a few.”
