1927 $20 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle NGC MS66 Black Holder
Here’s a great gem state Saint to include in your collection. Plus it is in the Retro Black Holder of NGC. The Retro Black Holder was issued briefly for NGC’s 25th anniversary in 2012. It is reminiscent of the original black holders issued for a short time back in 1987. The Retro Black Holder’s slick, black core provides a dramatic display for this beautiful 1927 Saint-Gaudens double eagle. NGC has graded 2,904 of the 1927 twenty as MS66 with 294 finer. Collectors Universe prices this issue at $4,250.00 in MS66.

Jeff Garrett writes, "The 1927 Double Eagle is the second most common date of the series .... This date makes an excellent candidate for a type coin. The production quality for this issue is outstanding and Gem examples of this date are among the best for the series." Gold specialist David Akers writes, "The 1927 is one of the most attractive issues of the series in terms of lustre, color and overall appearance. The average 1927 generally has more 'eye appeal' that the typical 1924, 1925 or 1926....Most examples are very sharply struck with fully frosty or soft satiny surfaces .... The lustre and color are usually excellent to outstanding..."
