1926 $10 Indian Head Eagle PCGS MS63 Ex.Rive d'Or Collection
Note: This coin has not been sent to CAC for review and possible endorsement by AUCM.
Here’s a very affordable example of the popular Indian Head eagle in a choice grade. David Akers writes, “Nearly all 1926 eagles are well struck and the lustre is rarely, if ever, less than very good to excellent. Color varies widely from greenish gold to light to medium orange gold .… Frosty specimens are the rule but a small percentage have somewhat satiny surfaces.” PCGS has graded 15,529 examples as MS63 with 6,484 finer. Collectors Universe give this issue a price of $2,000.00 in MS63.
It was in a letter to Augustus Saint-Gaudens that President Theodore Roosevelt “bullied” the artist into topping off the Liberty head on his eagle coin with an Indian feather headdress.
