1923 $20 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle PCGS MS64
Beautiful work of numismatic art to include in your collection!
Jeff Garrett writes, “the 1923 Double Eagle suffered from the mass melting of the 1930s, but more than enough survived in overseas hoards to keep it well within the ranks of any other common date. More than [60,000] examples have been certified [by both PCGS and NGC] and most show an attractive orange–gold color with strong luster. The striking quality is normally high for this date. The date is surprisingly available in MS 65 …. Superb Gems are very rare and seldom offered for sale.”
PCGS has graded 5,682 as MS64 with 727 finer. Collector’s Universe prices this issue at $3,750.00 in MS64.
David Akers writes, “The 1923 is generally very well struck… The rim is usually sharp and square, often with a partial wire edge. All specimens are fully frosty.”
