David Hall: "The typical 1919 Walker is very well struck for an early date Walker. I cannot recall seeing a mint state example that didn't have a sharp head and hand."
“All of the 1919 issues are rare in circulated grades and very rare in high grades, writes David Hall. “The 1919 Philadelphia Walking Liberty half dollar is the second rarest Philadelphia Mint Walker [mintage of 962,000], only the very low mintage 1921 is rarer. In Gem condition, the 1919 is very rare, but there [are] some examples available from time to time.”
NGC has graded 37 as MS65 with 13 finer.
With a moderately low mintage for the time the 1919 Philadelphia Mint half dollar was always a bit challenging to find in circulation. Writes NGC Coin Explorer, “Problem-free examples grading Fine and higher have long been in strong demand. The supply of Mint State coins is fairly low across all grades, with gems being genuinely rare. On the plus side most 1919(P) halves are well struck.”
