“The 1919-S Walking Liberty half dollar is a rare coin in all circulated grades,” writes David Hall. “In high grades it is very rare. In mint state condition, the 1919-S is the fifth rarest coin in the series. “
The 1919-S half dollar was generally hoarded by collectors beginning in the 1940s, and worn pieces are common. According to NGC Coin Explorer, specimens grading Fine and better, are scarce, especially those without signs of cleaning. Mint State survivors are rarities, with gems being extremely so.
