1915 $2.50 Indian Head Quarter Eagle PCGS MS64+ (CAC)
Take advantage of this chance to get a pristine, near gem example of this beautifully crafted coin. PCGS has graded 74 in MS64+, a relatively small population, with 216 finer. In CAC, there are 360 in MS64/64+ with 58 finer.
With the exception of the common 1908, the 1915 is considered the most common of the early Indian Head quarter eagles in Mint State grades. As discussed above, it is not that common in MS64+. Jeff Garrett writes of this issue, "Despite the continuance of World War I, the production for the Indian Head Quarter Eagle actually increased somewhat from the year before. The date is quite common in all grades below the Gem level and can be found with little difficulty." Gold specialist David Akers writes, "The 1915 is typically well struck with lustre that is about average for the series (I have seen some radiant examples of the 1915 and some subdued ones but most have good lustre.) Some specimens show a little granularity to the surfaces but it is less pronounced than it is on most early issues. Color is generally good, usually a light to medium yellow gold, often with some coppery highlights."
