Here’s an attractive specimen that would be a fantastic addition to your collection. Jeff Garrett tells us, “The 1914–D Double Eagle is among the most common dates of the series. Examples can be found in grades below MS 66 with relative ease.” NGC has graded 2,132 as MS64 with 810 finer. Collector’s Universe prices this issue at $3,200.00 in MS64.

Gold specialist David Akers writes, "The 1914-D is typically very sharply struck with ‘soft’ frosty, very slightly granular surfaces. (Many specimens I have seen were definitely on the satiny side, but more of them have that distinctive early Denver Mint frosty look.) Lustre is generally very good on this issue and the color is nearly always light to medium orange gold, often with greenish gold highlights."
