1913-D $20 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle PCGS MS63
Here’s a great piece to add to your collection. The stunning design on the Saint is a favorite of collectors, and the eagle on the reverse is considered the most beautiful one ever presented on U.S. coinage. PCGS has graded 2,134 examples as MS63 with 2,304 finer. Collectors Universe prices this issue at $3,150.00 in MS63.
Jeff Garrett writes, "As with many issues from this period, most examples [of the 1913-D] survived in European or South American bank vaults and have trickled back home in the past four decades. The date can be found easily in grades from MS 60 to MS 64."
Of strike and appearance, David Akers tells us, "The typical 1913-D is very sharply struck, and the lustre is generally average or slightly above average for the series. (The satiny specimens are very lustrous.) Color is usually quite good, light to medium orange or coppery gold being standard. A few also have greenish gold highlights."
