1913-D $20 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle PCGS MS62 Ex.Rive d'Or Collection
Here’s an attractive piece that would be a great addition to your collection. Issues from the San Francisco Mint are always popular with numismatists, especially the dramatic Saint-Gaudens double eagle! PCGS has graded 1,185 of them as MS62, with 4,420 finer. Collectors Universe gives this issue a price of $3,250.00 in MS62.
Jeff Garrett writes, "As with many issues from this period, most examples [of the 1913-D] survived in European or South American bank vaults and have trickled back home in the past four decades. The date can be found easily in grades from MS 60 to MS 64." Of strike and appearance David Akers tells us, "The typical 1913-D is very sharply struck, and the lustre is generally average or slightly above average for the series. (The satiny specimens are very lustrous.) Color is usually quite good, light to medium orange or coppery gold being standard. A few also have greenish gold highlights."
