1912-S $10 Indian Head Eagle PCGS AU58
Here’s a more affordable example of a better date in the popular Indian head eagle series. Perhaps it could serve as a type coin in your collection. Writes David Akers, “The 1912-S is a very difficult issue to obtain in high grade and, for the 1912-S, "high grade" starts at MS-63.” PCGS has graded 333 as AU58 with 642 finer. Collector’s Universe gives this issue a price of $2,250.00 in AU58.
Writes Jeff Garrett: “Although the mintage of the 1912–S Ten Dollar [300,000] approaches that of the Philadelphia issue, it is much rarer in all grades. Most examples seen are very softly struck, especially on the high points of the eagle’s wing. The date is difficult to obtain in all levels of Mint State.”
