Buy this coin you and you will possess an important rarity in the Saint-Gaudens’ series. This is one of only 22,000 pieces of the 1908-S twenty that was produced at the San Francisco Mint (the ‘Granite Lady’).
The mintage was small because this is the ‘With Motto’ design type revision enacted by Congress. It was not until late in 1908 that these coins were produced. In fact, research tells us that the first coinage was on September 10, 1908. These were the first Saint-Gaudens double eagles struck in San Francisco.
PCGS has graded 125 as AU58 with 221 finer. Collector’s Universe prices this issue at $13,000.00 in AU58.
