Here's a fin de siècle example of the ever-popular Type 3 Liberty head double eagle. Struck in 1898 at the San Francisco Mint, such pieces are cherished by enthusiasts of issues of the famed mint in California. They spent much time in canvas mint bags, possibly traveling to and from European banks. Thus many 1898-S double eagles have bag marks and abrasions. Because of this, it is difficult to acquire this issue in MS64 and above. The piece being offered by AUCM is an affordable one that would be a nice addition to your collection.
Hand-drawn design for the reverse of the $20 Liberty head double eagle with a proposed (but not adopted) version of the motto.
