Attractive example of a silver Bryan Dollar produced in 1896 by the Gorham Manufacturing Company of Providence, Rhode Island, for the 1896 presidential election campaign of William Jennings Bryan.
This “So-Called-Dollar” is a popular issue that presents a “cartwheel” on the reverse illustrating the size of the Federal standard (Morgan) dollar then being produced. The size of the HK-780 illustrates the amount of silver needed to reach the full value of a gold dollar, in comparison to the contemporary dollars then circulating. NGC has graded 41 as AU58 with 111 finer.
