1896-S $10 Liberty Head Eagle PCGS MS63
This is an extremely rare issue in MS63
Despite its substantial mintage of 123,750, this issue is more difficult to acquire in higher grades than its production total indicates. That is because virtually the entire mintage was put into circulation in San Francisco and the Western states. Paper money was anathema to Westerners, who utilized gold and silver coins in everyday commerce exclusively. The case was almost the opposite in the Eastern states, where paper money had been an accepted way of doing business for many years.
PCGS has graded 8 as MS63 with just 4 finer (2 in MS64 and one each in MS65 and MS66). NGC has graded none as MS63 with 2 as MS64 and 1 in MS68, which is the Clapp-Eliasberg example. Collectors Universe gives this issue a price of $15,000.00 in MS63. Please take the time to carefully study the images of this lustrous offering from AUCM. Then imagine having it in your collection, calling it your own.
