1895-S $1 Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS VF25 (CAC)
Here’s an excellent opportunity to acquire a more affordable example of the important semi-key date 1895-S Morgan dollar. The 1895-S silver dollar is always desired by numismatists, due to its small mintage of 400,000 pieces.
David Bowers writes, “Worn 1895-S dollars are available but are among the scarcer issues in the Morgan series. Probably, only about 5,000 to 10,000 survive.” NGC Coin Explorer tells us, “many went directly into circulation at the time. Of those that didn't, many ended up in Las Vegas Casinos in the 1940's and 1950's. Due to this extensive circulation, this date is quite uncommon in uncirculated grades.” Bowers estimates that around 100,000 specimens were melted.
PCGS has graded 301 as VF25 with 3,502 finer. Collectors Universe gives this issue a price of $1,050.00 in VF25. In CAC, there are 31 in VF25 with 346 finer. CAC prices the 1895-S $1 Morgan at $1,250.00 in VF25.
