Out of its original mintage of 880, there have only been 73 graded CAM by NGC. And from among that number just 1 has been awarded the elevated grade of PR66+, with 39 finer (as of 4/2021). None of the 1895 proof quarters have been graded DCAM by NGC, making the Cameo examples the finest available for that year. Plus the coveted green CAC sticker gives this piece even more numismatic cachet. This is a great specimen for the Barber specialist, one that will provide years of pleasure. Take a close look at the images of this coin. Both sides are decorated with an attractive golden toning that highlights the classical devices. We hate to admit it, but our imaging technology doesn't do this coin any justice. It has much more vivid colors on both the obverse and reverse than what you see on our scans. The sophisticated numismatist with an instinctual eye for beautiful coins will really appreciate this piece.

1895 25C Barber Quarter NGC PR66+Cameo (CAC)--$2,825.00

It is with great pleasure that we at AUCM offer for your consideration a beauty from the 19th century: an 1895 Barber quarter NGC PR66+ with Cameo contrast. This coin would be the perfect addition to a full set of proof Barber quarters. It would also be a great specimen to include in a type set of selected proof specimens from the three popular Barbers series (dime, quarter, and half dollar). Or if you want just one stunning proof from the Barber series, this would be a great "stand-alone" piece for your collection.

Numismatic scholar and art critic Cornelius Vermeule writes that, "The designs of Barber's coins were more attuned to the times than even he perhaps realized." Continuing, the scholar writes, "Of all American coins, long in circulation, no series has stood the wearing demands of modern coinage so well as the [coins] developed by the chief engraver in Philadelphia. Liberty's cap, incised diadem, and wreath of laurel were designed to echo all the depth and volume of her Olympian countenance. The classical substances are offset, almost literally, by the sharply rectangular dentils of the raised rim and the strength of 13 six-pointed stars. On the [reverse]...an equal constellation of stars...is clustered above the eagle's shaggy, craggy profile. On both sides the simple dignity of motto, legend, and denomination binds the pictorialism into a cohesive tondo. The wealth of irregular surfaces and sharp angles is an almost electrifying aesthetic experience...Uncirculated specimens [are] a pleasure to contemplate. The sculptor was unsurpassed in the mechanics of creating a durable design of monumental validity."
