1894-S $1 Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS AU58
The 1894-S is a better date in the Morgan dollar series, from a relatively small mintage of 1.2 million pieces. Heritage Auctions writes, “The 1894-S was never available in large numbers, and Treasury releases tended to be concentrated in isolated areas in the hard-money economy of the Western United States. John Love remembers a bag-quantity release that took place in Montana many years ago.”
The Greysheet writes of this issue: “A better date through and through, the 1894-S Morgan dollar is common enough in the lower circulated grades … Prices begin leaping upward around the AU level …” PCGS has graded 475 as AU58 with 4,069 finer. Collectors Universe gives this issue a price of $1,050.00 in AU58.
