Even though the 1894-O Morgan dollar had a generous mintage of 1,723,000 coins, the traditional weak strikes and poor luster of coins emanating from the New Orleans Mint plague this issue. Today, this issue is known as one of the major conditional rarities of the entire series in gem grades. Any uncirculated example brings well into the 4 figures, and PCGS has graded only 15 as MS65 and 2 as MS65+ with none finer. PCGS had graded 396 as MS62 with 815 finer. The obverse of this specimen has a flat strike of Miss Liberty's ear, as well as the hair above and below it. The reverse has a flat, smooth strike of the eagle's breast.
