1893-O $1 Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS AU55
Desirable better date in Morgan dollar series
Here’s an excellent opportunity to acquire a better date in the popular Morgan dollar series—at a better price in its assigned grade of AU55. PCGS has graded 556 as AU55 with 1,598 finer. Collector’s Universe gives this issue a price of $2,500.00 in AU55.
David Bowers writes (in his 1993 book): “The 1893-O dollar is the lowest mintage New Orleans Morgan dollar. Specimens are somewhat scarce in all grades and very rare in high Mint State levels.” It was in January of 1893 that the New Orleans Mint struck its entire mintage of 300,000 1893-O standard silver (Morgan) dollars. Thereafter, the Southern mint focused its efforts on other denominations before ending coinage production for the remainder of the year on June 1.
